| Editions | Google Language Translator | xili-language |
| Pros | Language selector, widget and menu flags with no setup of translations; Machine translation covers a long list of languages; Simple shortcodes for placing the selector | Free, GPLv2, no paid edition in the code; Language per post and page, with the theme .mo file switched to match; Language prefix in permalinks; Language list, recent posts and categories widgets |
| Cons | Free use is limited to non-commercial purposes under the vendor terms; Free version gives no SEO benefit and does not keep translations; Indexing, URL translation and in-context editing need a paid plan | Readme says it is not compatible with PHP 8 or later; Translations are edited outside the plugin (poEdit or xili-dictionary); Needs a translation-ready theme |
