Text Hover
1,000+ active installs · Rated 4.5/5 · Updated March 23, 2022
A plugin that shows help text when visitors hover over chosen words or phrases in posts and pages, handy for abbreviations, names or jargon. Terms and their hover text are listed in the settings, with options for case sensitivity, comments and limiting it to the first occurrence. It suits writers who want inline explanations without cluttering the text. The plugin is free, though it has not been updated since 2022.
Pros
- Simple term and hover text list in the settings
- Options for case sensitivity and one replacement per term per post
- Can use the browser tooltip or the qTip2 style
Cons
- Last tested up to WordPress 5.9
- Matching is by plain text, so terms in unusual markup may be missed
- Hover text is not shown to touch-screen users
