Imsanity
200,000+ active installs · Rated 4.9/5 · Updated August 20, 2026
A plugin that automatically scales down oversized image uploads to a maximum width, height and quality you set, replacing the original to save disk space. It can also resize existing images in bulk or one at a time, and optionally convert BMP and PNG files to JPG. It suits blogs whose contributors upload large photos straight from cameras. The plugin is free.
Pros
- Resizes uploads automatically, with no action from the contributor
- Separate size limits for Media Library and other uploads
- Bulk resize and per-image resize from the Media Library
Cons
- Replaces the original, so the full-size file cannot be recovered
- Uses the standard WordPress resize, so output is not heavily optimised
- No paid edition; support is through the WordPress.org forum
