EWWW Image Optimizer
1M+ active installs · Rated 4.8/5 · Updated October 13, 2026
An image optimisation plugin that compresses images on your own server or through the vendor's cloud service, and converts them to WebP. It also resizes uploads, lazy loads images, helps spot badly scaled images and keeps local backups. It suits site owners wanting optimisation without sending images elsewhere, or a cloud option if their host lacks the tools. A free version is available, and premium plans add stronger compression.
Pros
- WebP conversion and bulk optimisation in the free version
- Local server tools or cloud API optimisation
- Works with NextGEN Gallery and Flagallery libraries
Cons
- Higher optimisation levels need a paid API key
- Some CDN and cloud features call the vendor's servers
